Madrid, Spain. 1955.

Rosa Brun’s works are based on the absolute absence of representation and on the material essentiality of color as support, form and surface. In this way, she creates in the viewer opposing sensations of weight and lightness, emptiness and fullness, verticality and horizontality, inviting us to inquire into the structures and our own perceptive capacity.

In the artist’s own words: Matter as a support, its chromatic, tactile qualities, its brightness, its color, the minimum of its appearance, surprise me; I identify with its precariousness and its inevitable relationship with the constant balance of the procedures that make up my work, between what appears and what is not, between the minimum and its overflow in large surfaces; the tight imprecision of materials, edges, shadows, corners, the lateral, the overlaps that intertwine with timbres of sustained and unfinished brushstrokes, to say something, to look for that last pulse to the reality of what is not there.

Rosa Brun has a Degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and is Professor of Painting at the University of Granada.

She has exhibited at the Palacio de los Condes de Gabia, Granada; Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea, San Sebastian; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, Malaga; Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid; CEART, Fuenlabrada, Madrid; The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum Florida International University, Miami; New York Public Library, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), Buenos Aires; Museum of Contemporary Art of Moscow, MMOMA, Moscow.
Her work has been exhibited at The Armory Show, Art Basel/Miami Beach, Art Chicago, Zona Maco Mexico and ARCOmadrid.
