Alfredo Igualador
Todo este caer
This project begins on the walls of the studio of Alfredo Igualador (Madrid, 1971). That is where these drawings came from. They show the work of a painter who, fleeing from painting, finds himself continually emplaced in it. Drawings that trap in black strokes the dramatic images of the screens, the same ones that the media supply daily in incessant and intensive succession to finally fall into oblivion. Trapped and detained in pen strokes or watercolor stains, they stop us. The drawings overlap in feverish and rapid cadence, to account for the various pre-occupations of the author: painting, life, city, world, event, tragedy, painting … all against the backdrop of the war, near or far, that we live in.
Alfredo Igualador, resident of the Quinta del Sordo, the estate where Francisco de Goya lived and where the Black Paintings were located, knows of the horror that Goya conjured up there. Like good painters do, Igualador does nothing but collect what he witnesses in the crudest and most tremulous way, without the self-indulgence and the vacuities of much of the so-called political art.
