“Los Géneros de la Pintura”

Can we speak of “the genres of painting” in our contemporary art scene? In Los géneros de la pintura we display a series of pieces that show the evolution of some of the genres: still life, landscape, portrait, nude…

These genres could be easily identified until the 19th Century. However, to speak of genres of painting in our contemporary scene, where the avant-garde has become deeply rooted in our culture, can seem somewhat shocking. Despite the evolutions of painting, the genres can still be found today. They have been, however, renewed by a contemporary vision that has assimilated the preceding developments. Los géneros de la pintura presents pieces of 13 different artists who are very independent in their artistic creation and do not follow conventions.

The artists represented in this exhibition are Alfredo Alcaín, José María Baez, Jaime Burguillos, Patricio Cabrera, Félix de Cárdenas, Teresa Duclós, Carlos Forns, Curro González, Carmen Laffón, Miki Leal, José Luis Mauri, Melchor Ortiz and Guillermo Pérez Villalta.
