Patricio Vélez
Quito (Ecuador), 1945. Lives and works in Barcelona (Spain) since 1976.
Patricio Vélez approaches his work in series. With subtle or radical transformations, projected towards a horizon that is no longer unitary or homogeneous, the process develops by accepting changes of direction that later become decisive: each drawing feeds its own development, distancing itself from an a priori program that requires different strategies to avoid formal pigeonholing, a normative use of the elements.
Analogically, his drawings are associated to music or poetry; to the silence that some of them seem to invoke as a premise of language. Reality broken down into isolated abstract elements that intermingle without closing in a single meaning.
His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Spain, France, Canada and Brazil.
