Juan Suárez
SECOND VERSION
After his last exhibition at Galería Rafael Ortiz in the spring of 2006, Suarez continues to show concern for incorporating a series of critical, obsessive and constant terms in his work, terms as insistent as the images themselves: tension, denial, ambition, memory, repetition, irony. Terms that he uses to distance himself from his own code.
On a dimensional appearance in which the plane is broken, the order that governs the geometry that sustains it disappears in an incessant journey of repeated readings, a dialectic that compromises its own base. The rhythms change voluntarily, reordering or interrupting passages or landscapes evoked through this unsettled geometry of rational construction.
Sometimes suggestive in the application of the paint, placed with a certain intention of veiling, tearing. Other times violently scraping the pictorial surface, of acid range and pigments that do not grant relief. Illuminated opaque bodies. Yellows that acquire unforeseen tones, trying to stop time in brief and faded moments.
A very peculiar system of personal debate, balance between the harmonious and the arbitrary.
Suarez has had numerous exhibitions in Spain and the United States, and his work is represented in important collections and museums such as the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico.
